OCALA, FL – A car and a motorcycle were involved in a fatal collision in southwest Ocala early Thursday morning, reports the Ocala Star-Banner.
The incident occurred at Southwest 80th Avenue and Southwest 80th Street at about 4:10 a.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a Hyundai was going south on SW 80th Avenue and attempted to make a left turn onto SW 80th Street. The driver apparently did not see a motorcycle rider going north and pulled out into his path, resulting in the crash.
The motorcyclist, a 37-year-old man from Citrus County, was thrown onto the grass shoulder and was pronounced dead after being taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital. The driver of the Hyundai, an 87-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the same hospital.
The area around the crash scene was blocked for several hours while the FHP, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies and emergency crews were responding.
