News: Head-on collision on US-98 in Dade City kills 1, injures 3

DADE CITY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said two vehicles were involved in a deadly head-on collision Friday evening in Pasco County.

According to a report by WKMG, the crash happened on U.S. 98 near Stanton Hill Drive in Dade City at about 7 p.m.

The FHP’s initial investigation found that the driver of a Genesis GV80 was heading south on U.S. 98 when he tried to pass another vehicle.  The Genesis entered the path of a northbound Kia Soul, and the vehicles collided. The Genesis ended up in the travel lanes while the Kia came to rest on the shoulder.

The driver of the Kia, a 51-year-old man from Lakeland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in the Kia, a 43-year-old Orlando man and a 28-year-old Kissimmee woman, and the Genesis driver, a 28-year-old man from Orlando, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
