ALTOONA, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a teenage bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle in Lake County last week.

According to a report by WKMG, the 13-year-old boy was riding along a shoulder of State Road 19 near Shockey Trail Road in Altoona when the accident occurred at about 5:10 p.m.  State troopers said the boy veered into the roadway and was hit by a Ford F-250 pickup truck going south.

The victim, an Altoona resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup driver, a 33-year-old man from Oxford, Florida, was not injured and stayed at the crash scene.

DADE CITY, FL –  The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in Pasco County Tuesday night.

The Tampa Bay Times reports the crash happened on Tait Avenue near Lee Avenue in Dade City at about 8:35 p.m.

The FHP said a 42-year-old man was riding a bicycle north across Tait Avenue when he was struck by a westbound vehicle.  The bicyclist, a Dade City resident, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

GAINESVILLE, FL – Police in Gainesville are searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident involving a bicyclist.

In a Facebook post, police said the crash happened behind a Kohl’s store on the 3500 block of Southwest Archer Road near 35th Street.  A man was riding a bicycle behind the store when he was hit by a vehicle.  The victim, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.

A witness told police she saw a gray Toyota pickup truck at the scene speeding at about the same time the incident occurred.  Anyone with further information on the incident was asked to contact the Gainesville Police Department.

ZEPHYRHILLS, FL – An accident in Pasco County Wednesday morning left a bicycle rider dead, according to a report by WFLA.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the incident occurred on County Road 54 in Zephyrhills, where the bicyclist and a Toyota Sienna van were both travelling eastbound in the early morning hours.

As they approached 16th Street, the bicycle was hit from behind by the Toyota and the bicycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was identified as a 28-year-old St. Petersburg man.

PASCO COUNTY, FL – State troopers said a driver left the scene of a fatal bicycle accident in Pasco County, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a woman was riding a bicycle Sunday night in the area of Flint Street and Little Road when the incident took place at about 7:30 p.m.  As the bicyclist was headed south on the sidewalk along Little Road, she was involved in a collision with a vehicle going west at Flint Street.

The bicycle rider, a 46-year-old woman from New Port Richey, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.  A search is underway for the driver of the vehicle, though no description has been released as of yet.

GAINESVILLE, FL – Police in Gainesville are searching for the driver responsible for a crash that killed a bicycle rider, according to a report by WGFL.

The bicyclist, a male, was struck from behind by a vehicle while riding south on the 3300 block of South Main Street.  The driver involved then left the scene.

The Gainesville Police Department said that based on debris found in the roadway, the vehicle they are now looking for is a silver Volvo, either a sedan or an SUV.  Evidence indicated the driver may have been going about 45 miles per hour at the time of the collision.

OCALA, FL – The Ocala Police Department said a bicyclist died after being hit by a vehicle Saturday evening.

Police posted details of the incident that took place near the 1400 block of Northwest 27th Avenue just north of Rural King just before 6:15 p.m.  Witnesses said a bicyclist was laying down stationary in the southbound travel lane next to his bike.

One driver swerved to the left to avoid hitting him, but another vehicle right behind hit the bicycle rider.  The victim, a 67-year-old man, was trauma-alerted to the hospital and was pronounced dead.

PASCO COUNTY, FL – An elderly woman was killed in an accident while riding a bicycle in Pasco County Tuesday morning, state troopers said.

WFLA reports the 79-year-old victim was riding south on the Suncoast Trail when the crash took place shortly before 9:30 a.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bicyclist did not stop for a posted stop sign on the trail and ended up in the path of a van that was about to merge right to westbound Ridge Road.  The van and the bicycle collided and the bicycle rider, a New Port Richey resident, was declared dead after being transported to a hospital.

PASCO COUNTY, FL – A bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle in Pasco County Sunday night, reports WTSP.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the victim, a 46-year-old man, was riding north in the center lane of US-19 near State Road 54 when the accident took place shortly after 11:30 p.m.

State troopers said the bicycle rider was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by a 17-year-old girl.  The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – A bicyclist died after being struck by two vehicles in Sumter County Sunday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The accident happened on State Road 471 near Tarrytown, according to the Leesburg-News. The FHP said the bicyclist, a male, was riding south at about 9 p.m. when he was hit by a southbound Chevy Trailblazer.  The victim was knocked off the bicycle and struck again, by a Chevy Malibu.  The bicycle rider suffered fatal injuries.

The driver of the Trailblazer, an 84-year-old Zephyrhills man, told investigators he did not see the bicyclist prior to the collision.  The Malibu was driven by a 49-year-old woman from Leesburg.
