HERNANDO COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said an accident involving a suspected drunk driver left an elderly man dead Nov. 14.
According to the Citrus County Chronicle, the incident happened in the area of North Florida Avenue north of Zephyr Street. The FHP’s investigation determined that a Chevy Silverado and a Nissan Rogue had become immobilized at that location shortly after 11:30 p.m. A pedestrian and a Good Samaritan helped both drivers safely leave their vehicles before the Nissan went up in flames.
At the same time, a 17-year-old girl driving a Kia Optima was headed south on North Florida Avenue. At the top of a hill she struck the pedestrian, a 45-year-old Inverness woman, and the Chevy driver, an 82-year-old man. The Kia driver then struck the Chevy, causing it to hit the Nissan.
