ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said two vehicles were involved in a deadly collision in Alachua County on Saturday afternoon.

The Main Street Daily News reports the crash happened on Interstate 75 southbound at about 3:08 p.m. The FHP’s investigation found that a man driving a Subaru sedan in the middle lane lost control of the vehicle near the Micanopy exit at mile marker 374.  The Subaru struck a Ford box truck traveling in the inside lane of the interstate.

The box truck then hit a guardrail and the Subaru, causing the Subaru to overturn onto the shoulder and crash into a tree.  The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene.  Two passengers in the vehicle, a man and woman from Tennessee, suffered minor injuries and were taken to UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville.  No one in the Subaru was wearing a seat belt, state troopers said.  The driver of the box truck, a 29-year-old man from Gainesville, was not injured in the wreck.
