OCALA, FL – Police say an alleged drunk driver was arrested after crashing into a dentist’s office in Ocala early Monday morning.
The Ocala Police Department released details of the incident in a Facebook post. Officers responded to Healthy Smiles Dentistry on SW 10th Street at about 12:30 a.m. after a Chevy Equinox first struck a vehicle in the roadway and then slammed into the building. No one was injured.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 23-year-old Gabriel Hausy, was spotted fleeing from the officers on foot. After a brief pursuit, Hausy was detained.
Police determined that he was the owner of the Equinox, and a breathalyzer test indicated his blood alcohol content was .14, nearly twice the legal limit. Hausy was arrested on charges of DUI with property damage, resisting an officer without violence, and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
“Driving while under the influence is a truly reckless decision and there are severe consequences for such negligent behavior,” police said. “Unfortunately, one man disregarded this fact and caused catastrophic property damage to a building in the area.”
Hausy was taken to Marion County Jail with bond set at $2,500.
