News: Driver walking away from scene of Florida Turnpike crash fatally struck by vehicle

CLERMONT, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a driver who had been involved in a crash on the Florida Turnpike was struck and killed while walking on the roadway Sept. 7.

According to the Leesburg-News, the man was driving an Acura in Lake County near Clermont when he lost control of the car, drove off the road and struck an embankment.  The driver was walking away from the crash scene in the turnpike’s northbound lanes when he was hit by a Kia Soul at about 9:45 p.m.

The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The FHP said the driver of the Soul, a 24-year-old woman from Gainesville, stayed at the scene until emergency crews arrived.

State troopers are investigating the initial crash and the incident that led to the man’s death.
