MARION COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol and Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene of a fatal collision early Saturday morning.

According to a report in the Ocala StarBanner, the man killed in the crash was on his way to his brother’s funeral at the time and had his brother’s ashes in the car with him.

The FHP said the victim, a 64-year-old Fort McCoy man, was driving a Hyundai Elantra north on Northeast 160th Avenue Road when the incident occurred near 180th Street in Hog Valley.

The driver of a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck hauling a ATV with another ATV in the back, was backing into a hunting spot on the east shoulder of the roadway, state troopers said.

The Hyundai driver did not notice the front end of the pickup truck was in the roadway ahead of him and crashed into the side of the Dodge.  The Hyundai driver was pronounced dead at the scene at 7 a.m.

The pickup driver, a 58-year-old Lutz man, and his 82-year-old passenger, from Tampa, were not injured in the incident.
