OXFORD, FL – Traffic was disrupted along Interstate 75 in Sumter County Monday morning due to an overnight accident, WESH reports.

The Florida Highway Patrol and emergency crews responded to the wreck shortly before 1:30 a.m. on I-75 north near County Road 475 near Wildwood.

The FHP said there were injuries as a result of the incident, but did not release further details on who had been hurt.

The northbound lanes of I-75 were shut down during the accident response, with drivers forced to exit at State Road 44.   A number of other intersections were also closed in Wildwood and Oxford.  Heavy delays were reported through the area and drivers were advised to seek alternate routes.

Crews were repairing a bridge along the interstate that was struck during the crash.  The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said the bridge would remain closed for an indeterminate amount of time.

Lanes on I-75 and the Florida Turnpike were reported to be reopening by about 8:30 a.m.
