BROOKSVILLE, FL – One person was killed and another injured in a collision in Hernando County between a motorcycle and a pickup truck.

The Florida Highway Patrol told Pasco News Online that the vehicles crashed Monday night on US-41 at the intersection with Powell Road in Brooksville.

The FHP reported that the driver of a Chevy Silverado was heading north when he tried to turn left onto Powell Road and collided with an oncoming southbound Suzuki motorcycle shortly after 7 p.m.

BROOKSVILLE, FL – A crash in Brooksville involving a wrong-way driver left one person dead and several others injured, according to a report by WTVT.

The wreck happened Wednesday morning on US-41 north of Sergeant Lea Mills Boulevard.  The Florida Highway Patrol said its investigation showed that the driver of a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was going south in the northbound lane of US-41 at 1:21 a.m. and collided head-on with a Dodge Ram.

A 44-year-old Brooksville man who was a passenger in the Ram was pronounced dead at the scene.   The driver of the Ram, a 17-year-old girl, and two other passengers, a 45-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy, were taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

BROOKSVILLE, FL – One teenager died and four others were injured when their car crashed in Hernando County Monday night, the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to details reported by WTSP, a 17-year-old boy was driving east on Tundra Drive in Brooksville when the accident took place shortly after 10 p.m.  As he neared the intersection with Brookridge Central Boulevard the driver went off the road, where the car rotated and overturned.

The vehicle came to rest upright in a retention pond.  One passenger, an 18-year-old woman who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected.  She was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital.

BROOKSVILLE, FL – An employee of the City of Brooksville Department of Public Works was killed when his sanitation truck crashed Monday morning, the Suncoast News reports.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the worker, Ed Johnson, was going south on US-41 at about 6:15 a.m. when he lost control of the truck and was unable to negotiate a curve in the roadway.  The truck hit a guardrail south of Mondon Hill Road, went down an embankment and partially overturned.  Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.  Authorities said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

Johnson had retired from the DPW after 15 years on the job but returned to work in April 2023 because he loved the job, city officials said.

BROOKSVILLE, FL – State troopers have released details of a fatal single-vehicle accident that occurred in Brooksville on Monday morning, reports the Hernando Sun.

Authorities responded to the scene on Wiscon Road near Mobley Road after the crash took place at about 7:45 a.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation found that a woman was driving a Nissan Altima sedan westbound when she control of the vehicle.  The Nissan ran off the road, went onto the north shoulder and crashed into a tree.

BROOKSVILLE, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal golf cart accident that took place in Hernando County on Saturday morning.

According to details reported by WTSP, the incident occurred at the Clover Leaf RV Resort in Brooksville shortly before 11 a.m.

The FHP said a 74-year-old man was driving his golf cart westbound on a path designated for golf carts near Meetinghouse Lane.  He suffered a medical emergency, drove off the path and collided with a tree before landing in a pond.

BROOKSVILLE, FL – Authorities are searching for the driver responsible for the death of a pedestrian in Hernando County on Monday night, WTVT reports.

The incident occurred in the area of Jacqueline Road and West Mariner Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m.  The Florida Highway Patrol said a man was pushing a shopping cart in the travel lane of West Mariner Boulevard when he was hit by an eastbound 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The victim, a 38-year-old man from New Port Richey, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver involved fled the scene after the incident, state troopers said, and later abandoned the pickup on Star Road.

BROOKSVILLE, FL – An accident involving an all-terrain vehicle in Hernando County caused the death of the 18-year-old driver, WTVT reported.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the young man was driving the ATV west on Langworthy Drive near Rester Drive in Brooksville on Saturday at about 4:40 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway.

The ATV went onto a grass shoulder, collided with a wire fence and then hit a tree.  The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.

BROOKSVILLE, FL – A car accident in Hernando County Monday morning claimed the life of a teenage driver, state troopers said.

According to a report by WTVT, the wreck occurred on Wiscon Road near State Road 50 in Brooksville.

The Florida Highway Patrol said an 18-year-old man was driving a Nissan Sentra east on Wiscon Road when he lost control of the car.  The Nissan rotated off the highway, collided with a stop sign and then a utility pole before coming to rest.

BROOKSVILLE, FL – A woman died after being struck in Brooksville by a driver who left the scene, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to a report by WTSP, the 47-year-old victim was hit by a vehicle in the area of Citrus Way and Glory Lane on Monday, and suffered fatal injuries.

Investigators said debris from the crash scene helped them identify the vehicle involved as a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck.
