CITRUS COUNTY, FL – A two-vehicle collision in Citrus County on Monday claimed the life of an elderly driver, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred on N Suncoast Boulevard (US-19) and West Dunnellon Road in Crystal River at around noon, according to a report by WFTS.

State troopers learned that an 88-year-old man was driving a Ford Escape on US-19 when he tried to make a left turn onto Dunnellon Road.  The Ford entered the path of a tractor-trailer and was hit by the truck.

CITRUS COUNTY, FL – A fiery car accident in Citrus County on Tuesday night left a driver dead, according to WFTS.

State troopers responded to the wreck in the area of Torenia Verbenas Court and Poppy Street in Homosassa.

The Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation found that the driver of a Chevy Impala was headed west on Poppy Street at about 8:41 p.m. when she veered off the road for unknown reasons.

CITRUS COUNTY, FL – Among the deaths attributed to Hurricane Milton was that of a driver in Citrus County in an accident early Thursday morning.

A report by WTSP states that the incident happened as the man was driving a Ford Taurus on East Parsons Point Road at about 1:30 a.m.  The Florida Highway Patrol said a tree fell onto his car east of North Tomberlin Point.

The victim, a 46-year-old man from Inverness, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL – Florida residents are continuing to clean up and assess the damage left behind by Hurricane Helene.

A report by WTVT states that at least 500 homes in Hernando County and about 300 buildings in Citrus County sustained major damage, with the Citrus damage estimated at about $70 million.  Storm surge of up to 10 feet was reported in many of the communities close to the Gulf.

Homeowners along inlets in Homosassa were among those removing belongings from their homes, which had about three feet of water.  Trucks were helping residents remove debris, and shelters were open for residents whose homes were too damaged to return.

CITRUS COUNTY, FL – An accident in Citrus County Saturday afternoon claimed the lives of a man and woman on a motorcycle, WFTS reported.

The incident happened at the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 and Dixieland Street in the Homosassa area at about 1:12 p.m.  The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was headed west on Dixieland Street and failed to yield at the intersection.  The motorcycle entered the path of a Nissan Altima going north on U.S. 19 and was struck by the car.

The motorcycle driver, a 79-year-old man, and his passenger, a 69-year-old woman, were pronounced dead at an area hospital.  The two, described by the FHP as friends, were both residents of Brooksville.

CITRUS COUNTY, FL – A single-vehicle accident in Citrus County claimed the life of a 19-year-old man, WFTS reported.

The man, who was from New York, was driving a Nissan Altima on South Lecanto Highway Friday morning when the crash occurred at about 4 a.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the vehicle ran off the roadway and collided with a concrete power pole.  The victim was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital.

CITRUS COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said two pickup trucks were involved in a fatal collision Saturday afternoon in Citrus County.

According to a WFLA report, the driver of a Dodge Ram was going east on County Road 480 when he crossed over the center line near South Meredith Avenue at about 1:45 p.m.  The Dodge collided with a westbound Toyota Tundra nearly head-on, with both vehicles ending up in the westbound lane and the shoulder.

The Toyota driver, a 56-year-old man from Weeki Wachee, died at the scene.   The Dodge was driven by a 20-year-old Weeki Wachee man, who had two men as passengers, ages 27 and 19.  There was no word on whether any of the occupants of the Dodge were injured.

CITRUS COUNTY, FL – A motorcyclist was injured in a collision with a Citrus County Sheriff’s Office vehicle on Wednesday morning, according to the Citrus County Chronicle.

The rider was part of an escort brigade for the traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Procession.  The incident happened as the brigade was heading towards a Harley Davidson facility on U.S. 19/98 in Homosassa Springs.

The sheriff’s office said that as the escort reached West Homosassa Trail in Lecanto at about 9:45 a.m., one of the motorcyclists hit a Public Service Officer vehicle with the sheriff’s office.

CITRUS COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV in Citrus County recently.

According to WTVT, the crash happened March 3 on US-19 near Cardinal Street shortly after 12:30 p.m.

An investigation by the FHP determined that a 70-year-old Lecanto man was driving a Kia Sorento when he exited onto US-19 from a private driveway.  The SUV entered the path of a Suzuki motorcycle headed north on the roadway.

CITRUS COUNTY, FL – An accident involving a moped in Citrus County on Sunday night left one person dead and another injured, according to WTVT.

The crash happened on W. Norvell Bryant Highway near North Betty Point at about 7:30 p.m.  The Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation found that a 21-year-old woman from Belleview was driving a vehicle eastbound and trying to pass the moped when she collided with it.  The moped rider and a passenger fell off their vehicle, and the rider was then struck by a vehicle driven by a 75-year-old man from Crystal River.

The moped rider, a man from Inverness, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.  The passenger, a 15-year-old Homosassa boy, was seriously injured.
