GAINESVILLE, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol has released details of a fatal collision that occurred Friday night in Alachua County.

According to a report in the Gainesville Sun, a 45-year-old man from Gainesville died in the wreck.  The FHP’s investigation determined that he was driving a 2011  Chevrolet Camaro eastbound on NW Fourth Avenue in Newberry when the incident occurred at 10:25 p.m.

The car veered to the right near NW 251st Street, crossed onto the south shoulder and collided with a tree head-on.  The motorist died after being rushed to UF Health Shands Hospital.  He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, state troopers said.

GAINESVILLE, FL – One person was killed and five others injured in a rollover crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 on Monday, according to WUFT.

The Florida Highway Patrol said an SUV rolled over near the Southwest Williston Road exit near Gainesville at about 5:35 p.m.  The 33-year-old driver suffered fatal injuries.  Two of the five injured passengers were in critical condition, a 30-year-old woman and a 6-year-old child.  A 13-year-old girl was seriously injured while two other girls, ages 5 and 8, sustained minor injuries.  All occupants of the vehicle were from Beverly Hills in Citrus County.

The FHP is trying to determine what caused the wreck, which shut down the southbound lanes of I-75 hours for several hours while the scene was being cleared.  Drivers were diverted off the interstate to Archer Road.

GAINESVILLE, FL – A collision between a car and a scooter in Gainesville claimed the life of a University of Florida student, the Gainesville Sun reports.

The crash occurred Sunday evening near the Southwest Recreation Center on campus.  Gainesville police said the student was riding her scooter west on Hull Road at about 7:30 p.m.   At the same time, the driver of a Mustang was gong east on Hull Road when they tried to make a turn into a parking lot and crashed into the scooter.

The student, identified as 21-year-old Nyla Holland, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – A vehicle pursuit by law enforcement authorities ended in a crash in Alachua County last Tuesday, Feb. 4.

According to a release from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office at 1:52 p.m., deputies from the sheriff’s office and Gainesville Police officers were dispatched to the scene at SW Williston Road and the on-ramp to Interstate 75.

That is where a suspect who was being pursued crashed into a FedEx tractor-trailer.   The suspect was injured and taken to a hospital pending multiple felony charges.

GAINESVILLE, FL – A crash west of Gainesville between a motorcycle and a car Monday morning left three people dead, the Gainesville Sun reported.

The Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation indicated that the driver of a sedan was entering Newberry Road from Northwest 109th Drive at about 11:30 a.m. when the vehicle was struck by a motorcycle.  The impact caused the car to overturn.

The motorcyclist, a 31-year-old Archer man, the driver of the sedan, a 59-year-old Gainesville woman, and her passenger, a 90-year-old Gainesville woman, all were killed.

GAINESVILLE, FL -Gainesville Fire Rescue said its crews responded to a vehicle crash on Wednesday morning.

A post on GFR’s Facebook page at 8:15 a.m. said that the incident happened at 1800 N Main St.  Photos from the scene showed that a car crashed into a State Farm building.

Rescue crews successfully extricated a person from the vehicle.   There was no word on the person’s condition.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – State troopers were at the scene of a fatal crash on State Road 45 in Alachua County Wednesday night, reports the Gainesville Sun.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a man was driving a sedan southbound when the accident happened shortly after 11 p.m. near U.S. 41 and Northwest 32nd Avenue.  According to the FHP, the vehicle collided with a deer and went off the road.  The sedan then went on to the shoulder of the highway, overturned, and crashed into a utility pole.

The driver, a 59-year-old man from High Springs, was ejected.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

GAINESVILLE, FL – A wrong-way driver was involved in a fatal collision in Gainesville on Sunday morning, police said.

According to a report by WCJB, the incident occurred at 3333 Northeast 39th Avenue, near Gainesville Regional Airport.

A police investigation determined that a driver was heading in the wrong direction while traveling east on State Road 222, and collided with another vehicle.

GAINESVILLE, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol has released details of a deadly motorcycle crash that occurred in Alachua County on Wednesday morning, the Gainesville Sun reports.

State troopers responded to the scene on State Road 24/Archer Road west of Gainesville at about 10:32 a.m.  The FHP said a motorcyclist and the driver of a car were both attempting to pass other traffic when they collided.  The motorcycle then went off the roadway and crashed into a utility pole.

The motorcycle rider, a 40-year-old man from Bronson, was pronounced dead after being transported to UF Health Shands Hospital.

BRADFORD COUNTY, FL – Bradford County Fire Rescue paramedics responded to the scene of a two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon in northwest Stark, reports WCJB.

The incident, which was reported shortly before 1:00 p.m., led to a partial closure in the 5600 block of Northwest County Road 229.

Details are limited, but officials said a semi-truck hit the back of an SUV carrying more than one occupant.
