SUMTER COUNTY, FL – A van and a dump truck were involved in a deadly collision in Sumter County early Tuesday morning, according to WFLA.

The Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation found that the driver of the dump truck was going east on County Road 476 at about 5:40 a.m. when he went through a stop sign at the intersection with State Road 471.   The dump truck collided with a Chevy van that had been heading north on SR-471.

The Chevy driver, a 45-year-old man from Webster, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.  The driver of the dump truck, a 63-year-old Florida City man, was not injured in the wreck.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – A multi-vehicle accident in Sumter County last week left one person dead and two others injured, reports WKMG.

The Florida Highway Patrol was called to the scene Jan. 23 on State Road 44 in the area of Industrial Drive.  The FHP’s crash report stated that the driver of a truck did not slow down or stop for traffic ahead of him and rear-ended a Honda Civic at about 12:45 p.m.    The truck also collided with a Ford F-150 ahead of the Civic as well as a Toyota Rav4 in an adjacent lane.

The Honda driver, a 50-year-old man from Wildwood, suffered fatal injuries.  The truck driver, a 40-year-old man from New Jersey, and the Ford driver were hospitalized with minor injuries.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – New details have been released in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision in Sumter County, reports WESH.

The Florida Highway Patrol released information regarding the vehicle being sought in the incident, which occurred Jan. 17 in the area of County Road 475 and State Road 44 at about 5:30 p.m.

The FHP’s investigation determined that the driver of an unidentified car was heading south on C.R. 474 while approaching a stop sign and did not yield when entering the intersection.    The driver of a Nissan Altima going west on S.R. 44 swerved to the left to avoid a collision with that vehicle and entered the eastbound lanes, where the car crashed into an eastbound Chevy pickup truck.  The Nissan and the Chevy both caught fire.

The Florida Highway Patrol was called to the area of County Road 475 and State Road 44 after the incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m.

THE VILLAGES, FL – A vehicle was involved in a collision with a Sumter District School bus in The Villages last Wednesday morning, the Villages-News reports.

According to police, a woman driving a Honda HR-V was trying to make a turn from Canal Street onto County Road 466A when her vehicle hit the school bus.  None of the 49 students on board were injured in the incident.

The driver of the Honda was taken to Trailwinds Emergency Room with minor injuries.  She was issued a ticket on a charge of failure to yield right of way from a stop sign.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – Rising flood waters persist in some parts of Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, including in Sumter County.

According to WKMG, a voluntary evacuation order was issued Monday for those living along the Withlacoochee River after officials warned that water levels had exceeded 11 feet and are expected to surpass 13 feet by Friday.

Sheriff’s deputies used an airboat to go door to door and ask residents if they wanted to be evacuated from their homes.  A staging area was set up at County Road 684 and County Road 688 near the Croom area with fire trucks, a high-water rescue vehicle and an airboat.

WILDWOOD, FL – Police said a collision in Sumter County last week left a bicycle rider dead, the Villages-News reports.

The incident happened Sept. 10 in the vicinity of U.S. Highway 301 and County Road 471 in Wildwood.  According to the Wildwood Police Department, a man was riding an e-bicycle at about 11 a.m. and was in the intersection when he he collided with a semi-truck.

The e-bike rider, a 32-year-old man from Wildwood, died at the scene.  His identity was not released.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – A car collided with a school bus in Sumter County on Friday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

A report by WFTS states the incident happened along County Road 222 at about 8:35 a.m.   State troopers learned that the driver of a Ford Escort wagon was going east and failed to stop at a stop sign.   The Ford entered the path of the school bus and the vehicles collided.

The Ford driver, a 68-year-old woman, was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital.  The school bus driver, a 50-year-old woman, was hospitalized with minor injuries.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol has released details of a fatal vehicle crash that occurred in Sumter County early Tuesday.

According to WKMG, the incident happened on Interstate 75 north near mile marker 330.  According to the FHP, a driver lost control of his vehicle while traveling on the interstate and crashed into a guardrail in the median.

The motorist, a 36-year-old man from Coleman, died at the scene.  His name has not yet been released.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – Two vehicles were involved in a deadly head-on collision on County Road 472 in Sumter County on Monday night, WFTV reported.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation, the driver of a Nissan Altima was going east on County Road 472 at about 7 p.m. when her vehicle was struck by a Cadillac CTS that entered the eastbound lane while passing traffic near NE 42nd Boulevard.  Both vehicles rotated to the south shoulder of the roadway, and the Altima overturned multiple times.

The driver of the Altima, a 55-year-old woman from Oxford, died at the scene.  The driver of the Cadillac, a 52-year-old Ocala man, and his passenger, an 81-year-old man from Yorkville, Illinois, were seriously injured and transported to an area hospital.
