BUSHNELL, FL – Two truck drivers were injured when their vehicles collided in Sumter County Friday morning, according to WKMG.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the two semi-trucks were both going south on Interstate 75 in Bushnell when the incident occurred at about 8:48 a.m.

As one truck moved from the center lane to the outside lane near mile marker 313, it hit the back of the trailer being towed by the other truck.

WILDWOOD, FL – Authorities have arrested an alleged drunk driver following an accident in Sumter County last week that left one person dead and three others injured, WKMG reports.

The Florida Highway Patrol said 40-year-old John Andrew Henderson of Kissimmee was driving a sedan south in the inside lane on Interstate 75 in Wildwood Wednesday at about 2:44 a.m. when he entered the center lane and struck a trailer that was being towed by a pickup truck. The impact caused the pickup to go over a guardrail and overturn.

The pickup truck driver, a 32-year-old man from Spring Hill, Tennessee, was pronounced dead at the scene. His three passengers, a 32-year-old man, a 31-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy, were hospitalized with serious injuries. All are from Spring Hill. Henderson was not injured.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – Authorities said they have made an arrest in connection with a recent accident in Sumter County that left a motorcyclist dead, the Villages-News reports.

32-year-old Emmanuel Quesada Fonseca was arrested on a charge of driving without a license in a case involving death. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Fonseca was driving a truck towing a trailer south on Interstate 75 in Wildwood on May 19 when one of the trailer’s tire rims came loose and rolled into the path of a man riding a motorcycle along with three fellow bikers.

When the motorcycle struck the rim, the rider was thrown from the bike and landed on the roadway.  The victim, a 55-year-old man from Acworth, Georgia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that killed a newspaper delivery man in Sumter County, reports WESH.

The incident happened on Oak Bend Place in The Villages, where the 76-year-old man was delivering newspapers in his Chrysler van Sunday morning at about 5:45 a.m.  According to the FHP, he stopped and got out of the van, but the vehicle was not placed in park and it began rolling.

The delivery man was struck by the open door of the vehicle and was knocked to the ground.  The victim, a resident of Martinez, Georgia, suffered fatal injuries.

SUMTER CO., FL – A multi-vehicle collision near Bushnell last Friday night claimed the lives of two people, WESH reports.

The crash took place at about 7 p.m. on County Road 48 near the intersection with Southeast 10th Street.

Investigators say the driver of an eastbound SUV lost control while navigating a curve, over corrected, and collided nearly head-on with a westbound sedan. The SUV then hit two additional westbound vehicles, causing the driver to be ejected.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – A motorcyclist and two other people suffered critical injuries after a serious multi-vehicle crash in Sumter County Friday morning reports the Villages News. 

The incident happened around 6 a.m. as a 49-year-old Sumterville man was riding a Harley Davidson south on US-301 toward East Belt Avenue. A 50-year-old woman from Bushnell driving a Chevrolet Colorado was traveling in the opposite direction when she made a left turn in the path of the Harley.

The man was ejected from the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet. The woman left her pickup to help the man in the roadway but was hit by a driver in a GMC Envoy. A 62-year-old Summerfield man was driving the GMC which also struck the motorcycle.

BUSHNELL, FL – An elderly motorcyclist was fatally struck by a pickup truck on a county road west of Bushnell last Wednesday, The Villages News reports.

The fatal collision happened on County Road 48 just west of County Road 616 at about 3 p.m. on December 29, when a 1999 Ford F-350 turned left in front of a motorcycle being operated by a 73-year-old Webster man.

Emergency responders took the victim to an area hospital, where he died. Authorities say he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
